What do you think?
Was this possibly what happened? Was Judas a misunderstood man? Was Mary torn between a love of a man (i e romantic and sexual) and a love of God? Did the last supper end in a fight?

shareI gotta say that this musical really redirects the audience to the secularism of the story. It really brings it down to Earth, so to speak.
Judas? Betrayer out of fear. Facing death and persecution certainly challenges a person's beliefs and how dedicated they are to the idea.
Imagine that Christianity became illegal and punishable by prison or death. Then you were offered $100,000 to turn in your pastor for preaching against the law. Imagine the police were closing in. All you had to do was point out the pastor and you could save everyone else in the group AND receive $100k
How many Christians would make such a deal? Honestly?
Mary Magdeline? I imagine being in the presence of someone who accepted you as a person, gave you respect and spoke of love and forgiveness could easily win a woman's heart- especially a woman of her "questionable" past.
Of course, Charlie Manson used the same tactics- but for manipulation. Still women killed to please him, so it's not far-fetched to imagine Mary could be drawn in to Jesus' charms and fall in love and still be restrained in that love by her respect and admiration of his purity.
The Last Supper? You get 12 people from different backgrounds together at one table. Add a bunch of alcohol and start talking about religion and politics...
I don't need you to tell me how good my coffee is. .
I always feel uncomfortable when Judas sings Blood Money because I know he's going to betray Jesus. I'm an athiest but the story still makes me feel saddened.
"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"
Well said, gabby. Well said.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.
No. Judas was embodied by Satan...that's when the betrayal began. Did Satan "choose" Judas because Judas was misunderstood or that Satan knew that Judas would've been the betrayer? I don't know and I'm not sure I want to.
No. There is no biblical evidence that Mary was in love in a sexual sense. She was just a devout follower and was indeed present at the crucifixion.
No. They were all Jewish and many were fishermen, and some were even biologically related to each other.
The version I seem to remember being taught was that God/Jesus put Judas up to the "betrayal" to help fulfill Jesus's destiny to sacrifice himself (as alluded to in the lyrics: "You wanted me to do it. What if I just stayed here and ruined your ambition?" or "Christ . . . I only did what you wanted me to."). It just sucks that Judas ended up dying for it, and then being reviled forever for doing his bit for the team.
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die."
