This was soooooo made in the 70s!!

One look at the wardrobe, the colors, the hair styles and the dancing, and you know right off that it was made in the 1970s. No doubt at all.

But the music, the lyrics and the performances are so incredible that it just doesn't seem to matter. If only it could have as long a run as the subject matter.

I think I shall never pee on life as lovely as a tree

That is one reason that I always liked the film: the clothes, the afros, etc. And you know some were probably high most of the time. But that is what MAKES the movie-I just love it!

reply

Well, it was one of the first *rock operas* recorded in the early 70's...the stage play and movie were based on the album, not the other way around, as is usually the case.

I'll bank this film and most musical made before it over ANY musical made today. Everything is better about them, from the songs to the emotional content. To me, musicals made today are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO today! Meaning suffering from vaccuous, idiotic, flat and unappealing songs mostly. Try and have a song from Les Miz go through your head all day long. YAWN! JC Superstar was clearly Webbers greatest accomplishment, as most of what he's done and given birth to in modern musicals is silly, boring and unmemorable.

Can't agree with you about Webber. His greatest accomplishment is Phantom. Next is JCSS and then Evita.

As for your view of Les Miz. That's the musical that runs in my head. When I'm feeling down I start thinking of At The End Of The Day. It always perks me up.

Yes, CCCampedel it's really a 70s movie, what were the Producers thinKing with those hair styles, dancing and colors??? Why didn't they set it in the 80s, 90s. or 40s? It just makes no sense they set it in the 70s. Why not set it in 2020? It would have made more sense, no? Thanks so much for pointing it out.

I think I am taking all of this rather well.

True, but it's one of the few films made in the 70's that I enjoyed. I give it an 8/10.
