Herbert Lom as Pontius Pilate

When I was watching the special edition dvd the other day, a thought came to me: What if they had gotten Herbert Lom to play Pontious Pilate? Sounds silly I know, but if I had anything to do with it, I would have chosen him. He could sing and speak the role, and those EYES! I could just see them just drilling into poor Jesus, interrogating him! I could just see the look of disgust on his face! He would have had to have darkened his hair or worn a wig. I got a spooky feeling just thinking about it!

I wonder if they had wanted him to play it?

reply

I doubt it. He probably can't sing.

He can sing. He was in a stage version of The King and I and one of the songs, A Puzzlement, can be heard on YouTube, if it's still on there. I think the soundtrack can be found on Amazon.com or some other online store.

Too bad we'll never get to see it; they didn't know to film plays in the 1950's. It must have been done in either 1957 or 58 because when Herbert Lom appeared in The Lady Killers in 1958, he wore a hat most of the way through. When it is taken off, his hair is just beginning to grow back, making him look like Curly Howard!

reply

I did not know that. It would still be strange.
