Excellent Spag Western Doc on Independent Film Channel
Currently showing on the Independent Film Channel [IFC] www.ifc.com is an excellent, though way too short [under an hour] doc on Spaghetti Westerns.

Here's the site's description:
Americans lost interest in the western genre back in the 1950's, but our European cousins never did. That's why Italian filmmakers like Sergio Leone loaded up their six shooters and went on to create the leanest, meanest, most memorable "horse operas" of all time. This IFC original documentary celebrates these cult classics with clips from the best of the over 600 spaghetti westerns ever produced, and interviews with Clint Eastwood, Ennio Morricone, Alex Cox and a host of others. (2005) (1:00) Not rated.
One interesting tid-bit re Terence Hill. After the wild popularity of Franco Nero in Sergio Cirbucci's DJANGO, etc., Nero left the greener pastures of American films, much to the regret of the Italian studios for losing such a bankable star not to mention a very profitable series/character. The producers of the next DJANGO-like film in the pipe tapped Terence Hill, but when the prods went to the studio heads and pitched the movie, they worried that it would get turned down if they didn't have Franco Nero. So, they went into the pitch meeting with pictures of TH. The suits took one glance at the pictures and said, "Oh, great! Another Franco Nero DJANGO film! Fine, go right ahead," not knowing it was another "unknown" actor. Actually, TH had been in movies since 1953, in tiny roles [under his real name, of course].
Anyway, a very entertaining doc, narrated by Robert Forester. Interviewees include: Alex Cox [great comments!], Clint Eastwood, Ennio Morricone, and a whole slew of Spag directors, producers, writers, etc. etc. Other commentators include such stars as Terence Hill, Franco Nero, Tomas Milian.
A lot of the show is built around remarks by Christopher Frayling, author of some great books/articles on SW's.
Great, well worth watching for behind-the-scenes commentary, rare clips, cool posters, insightful comments, etc.
