Shot on Video?

I'm watching this on TCM right now... It looks like it was shot yesterday, PAL I'm guessing. Anybody have an idea why it looks the way it does? Different fps rate? Looks beautiful... though.

Shot on 35mm film.

However, instead of Techniscope (a process which allowed shooting wide-screen images without using anamorphic lenses on the camera, which allows extreme closeups without distortion, which Leone used on "Once Upon a Time in the West"), it was shot using Panavision lenses and cameras, whioch meant none of Leone's trademark extreme closeups.

Video wasn't nearly good enough in 1973; if you want to see a shot-on-video film of roughly the same period, check out Frank Zappa's "200 Motels".

For some reason, both the US DVD and the showings on Encore Westerns have that "PAL-to-NTSC" look to them... strange thing is, I think it's the right speed though as it doesn't have that "PAL speedup" sound to it. Hell if I know, too bad we don't have a cleaned up two disc edition like Germany.
