So self-conscious it is surreal. Recycles everything you have seen before and creates something new & true... A masterwork on so many levels... Hill & Fonda are beyond magnificent. So many marvelous set-pieces, with the drinking-shooting contest out-doing anything Bugs Bunny ever did...

I completely agree with you, it was ahead of it's time, and probably would've been better received if it had been made later even. Fonda and Terrence Hill are excellent in it, the movie is so clever with great action as well. One of my favorite Westerns.
