Hi,

I'm trying to find out about the real person (Ivanhoe "Rhygin" Martin) the character in the film is based on. All I've managed to find out is that he was killed on September 9, 1948, at Lime Cay, Jamaica by police. I have spoken to some of my relatives, including one who knew him and they all say he was a kind of Robin Hood figure. I desperately want to find out as much information as I can about him so I can put it on the net.
Unfortunately time is of the essence as most of the people who know anything will now be in their mid to late 80's. So if you know anything or know someone who does can you please let me Know.

He might be named after Rhygin, but isnt the movie character really based on a reggae singer? The one who was the inspiration for the song Johnny Too Bad?

Today Vincent "Ivanhoe" Martin (1924-1948), known as "Rhyging" has his own Wikipedia page. There are also a lot of web pages on him directly or his influence on things like music, youth culture and being a folk hero.
