Coming to DVD?
This is one of my favorite Godzilla movies. Does anyone knows who owns the rights to release this movie on DVD in region 1?

I wonder if it's the same as the "Digital Disc" double feature with Smog Monster which contains unquestionably the worst transfer I've seen. The opening skips around like it's scratched (meaning they probably mastered it from a scratched laser disc or something) and the movie cuts off even more of the picture than a full frame. Imagine using the "zoom" button on a full screen version and that's what you get.

Since I don't have the Digital Disc version, I can probably say it's the Passion Productions Version like I own. I looked over on Tohokingdom's site and god that version looks awful. Atleast the Passion Productions version is just a rip of the Goodtimes VHS, except with color problems. Like the Goodtimes VHS, it too is missing the opening. I reviewed my DVD on the Tokyo Monsters forum but they shut down, but luckily I have it posted here: http://tohogate.tripod.com/id29.html

Godzilla Vs. Hedorah has a great transfer I think you got the bootleg because the release of Hedorah is pretty good. As for Megalon I have an unofficial copy and it's dreadfull probably the kind of visuals you are talking about.
shareI think Rhino owns the movie. They had to pick up the rights in order to release the MST3K version onto DVD for the Volume 10 box set, now out of print I think because of rights issues with the movie The Giant Spider Invasion. There's no word if Rhino will release a seperate double feaure DVD of both the MST3K and non-MST3K versions.

I'm glad I found Volume 10 while I still could. This is probably the second best in the set, after The Giant Spider Invasion. I might watch this one tonight though.
