MST3K Volume 10.2 won't include GODZILLA VS. MEGALON

We have learned that Rhino is set to re-release “The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10.”

So, what happened? Apparently there was some sort of rights mix-up regarding the inclusion, in the original set, of episode 212- GODZILLA VS. MEGALON. In the new set, which Rhino has called “The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10.2,” that disc has been replaced with a disc containing episode 402- THE GIANT GILA MONSTER.

Even more exciting–one of the features of the disk will be a short sketch featuring Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu and J. Elvis Weinstein commenting on the SNAFU that led to the withdrawl and re-release.

The disc also includes an extra feature starring actor Don Sullivan (who stars in “The Giant Gila Monster”).

Tentative street date: Feb 5th.

As a reminder, the other three episodes in the set are episode 503- Swamp Diamonds (plus short: What to Do on a Date), episode 514- Teen-age Strangler (plus short: Is this Love?) and episode 810- The Giant Spider Invasion.

I knew it had to have something to do with this movie. This or The Giant Spider Invasion, but I figured it was this one, Toho owns the movie and I'm sure didn't like the MST3K version.

This means Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster will not be included in any future box sets.

I had heard that Godzilla vs Megalon was a public domain movie because toho did not renew the rights to this film. I could be wrong.

They still own Godzilla so it probably doesn't matter about the actual movie. I'm sure Toho owns the movie as well, that seems like the only explaination the MST3K version was pulled from DVD.

would still love to know who owns this movie in the united states nothings been known unless goodtimes video still owns the rights why has no one bought it from them yet?

Rhino probably bought the rights in order to release the MST3K version. If true, I doubt Rhino will release the regular version.

Well, this news makes it a tough decision for me. I would really like to own The Giant Gila Monster, but I really don't want to spend 50 more dollars for what would end up being one movie (since I bought the original vol. 10). What to do, what to do.......

On Wisconsin!
