They Should Make More Portmanteau Movies Today

They should make more portmanteau movies, like this classic, today, instead of churning out the same old drivel of over-sexed teenagers in the woods being stalked by the same old masked maniac.

That's right! The last one I can think of was Creepshow, and before that The Twilight Zone Movie. The portmanteau style lets you do four of four different writers' best stories.

I couldn't agree more. I have all the portmanteau movies on dvd and watch them often. Never weary of them. They had that kinda magic (in the words of the 1986 Queen song!), just like the Chris Lee Dracula films did.

You guys should check out Trick R' Treat. It's a great modern anthology film. We are also working on a anthology film which is a direct tribute to the Amicus films tentatively called 'Game of Death'.

Also, don't forget to revisit the John Carpenter/Tobe Hooper co-directed TV Special "Body Bags" (1993). It's well worth seeking out too, as if you lot needed reminding!.

I would like to see a return to potmanteau horror. A movie containing four segments weaved together is just right for this genre. The new 'The ABC's of Death' is a protmanteau of sorts but it is divided into 26 segments. This doesn't give enough scope for each segment. But let's hope that it might signal the return to portmanteau horror.

Have you seen the new horror portmanteau movie called Grave Tales? It has four different stories, with the framing story starring Brian Murphy (of George and Mildred) as a creepy gravedigger. You can buy it from Hemlock books.

Thank you for the recommendation. I've just checked it out on imdb and it looks like one I must have in my collection. I hope that we portmanteau fans can get more updates on this thread.

Anthology films have seemed to make a comeback in recent years with films like the V/H/S trilogy, Holidays, Tales of Halloween, The ABCs of Death, etc. However, in my opinion, nobody can (or probably will) beat Amicus. They're all perfect anthology horror movies.
