Anybody see the Mystic River connections?

I saw Mystic River the other day and couldn't help see a lot of Eddie Coyle in it. (A Few Mystic River and Eddie Coyle SPOILERS ahead).

Both films were about petty Boston criminals. Both tragic characters had similar names (Dave Boyle, Eddie Coyle). Both tragic characters met nearly identical ends (liquored up and shot by those close to them). Both involved giving up friends to the cops for time off.

Of course, Mystic River had a dash of Sleepers in it, with all of the haunting memories of childhood trauma, but the Eddie Coyle references still piled up.

the only connection to mystic river is the fact it's a boston movie (and was filmed incorrectly, location wise)..."friend's of eddie c." is probably THE greatest Boston movie ever made, the "Brink's Job" being a kinda close second...the accents weren't too good, but we all agree Mitchum made a good-ass attempt and he gets props for that...it was kinda a b-movie, which may make folks disagree with me about it being THE best, but those that know, know...not too many people even know of this flick, but I remember when I worked at Boston City Hall, every called me Eddie (I have the same last name).

and by the way, the only thing that made Mystic River decent was that they at least filmed 25% of the scenes in Eastie, where it's supposed to be set...

Yes..but alas, Southie once again get's the props from Hollywood (think "Good Will Hunting, "Southie") in the little league parade scene at the end...they had S.B. baseball caps on...jeesh! :-)
