What did you learn from 'Eddie Coyle'?

I learned that I should always listen to my mother and never, ever, go to hockey games.

That Hollywood should get back to making dialogue-rich, character-driven movies and retire the "overplayed, formulaic, same old CG effects crap" before we reach the point of not being able to come back!

reply

I'm afraid it's already too late.....

The 70's would cease to be without Alex Rocco's unibrow

Steven Keats should have held out a few years more until Tarrentino was in charge of Hollywood and could revive his career.

reply

You hit the last two right on the nose. The trouble for Keats was that Jackie Brown was so memorable a character, everybody wanted him to play ONLY Jackie Brown.

reply

Thanks. Richard Jordan was (and still is) overlooked. His perfomance in this flick in monumental.

reply

Richard Jordan was one of my favorite actors because he could nail so many different characters and refused to be categorized and stuck in one type. If he didn't like the film roles he was getting, he just went off and did theatre. As he got older, they stuck him with the villain tag a lot, but at least his villains varied, from sick maniacs to cartoon nasties to slimy sleezeballs. But then his last role was a Civil War hero to break your heart. The man had range.

Spot on with all your remarks. Glad there is someone out there who knows a hidden gem when they see one. Hats off!

reply

Maybe Hollywood can have a separate category at the Oscars: "Best Picture That is a Real Movie"

reply

NICE! Or "Best picture that should have won."

How much prosecutors get from rats rather than effective police work.

reply

I'd say that getting info from rats is part of effective police work ;-)

Totally agree, but it probably agree that it is too late for Hollywood to learn anything from this movie.

Everybody should listen to his mother. But not to ATF agents.

I learned 3 things.

1. Never ask a man why he's in a hurry.

3. Wanda will come off like electricity.
