50th anniversary 4K release slated for September, both cuts to be included.

Also coming in September from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is William Friedkin’s The Exorcist (1973) in 4K Ultra HD, as we first reported here on The Bits last year. Street date for that is tentatively set for 9/19. This will include both the Theatrical Cut and Director’s Extended Versions.

Thank God they're including the theatrical cut.

William Friedkin directs one of the most horrifying movies ever made. When a charming 12-year-old girl takes on the characteristics and voices of others, doctors say there is nothing they can do. As people begin to die, the girl's mother realizes her daughter has been possessed by the devil--and that her daughter's only possible hope lies with two priests and the ancient rite of demonic exorcism.

I agree, the original is better in my opinion. I was way too young when I watched this the first time, I snuck it into my room and watched it all by myself when I was around 13 maybe. Bad decision on my part! Ever since then I have loved this movie. But it's weird, I watch with some people and they just find the movie funny, and laugh at parts where I am creeped out.

But honestly what I am worried about with these new 4k, is if there are special behind the scenes stuff on the disc version. I read last night that in the digital versions of these purchases, there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff, but for the disc versions, I just see commentary that is mentioned. I am definitely pre-ordering the Best Buy steelbook, but I will be a little bummed if there isn't a plethora of special features. I love that stuff.

My favorite horror movie of all time.

I still own the original DVD from the early 00s and it looks amazing. I picked up the bluray a few years ago and it really doesn't look that much better. I doubt I'll pick up the 4K.

The blu ray looks way better than that DVD (at least to me), and I have that same DVD. Also, the blu ray doesn't have that overdone blue filter during the entire exorcism. I don't know why Friedkin put it in there to begin with, it wasn't necessary and looks better without it.

You didn't care for the "Director's Cut" or "The Version You've Never Seen" with the spiderwalk down the stairs??

I do I rewatched it recently, I like it a lot and I go back and forth on which I prefer. I'm just glad both cuts are available.
