Why would Pazuzu travel from Mesopotamia to America just to possess Linda Blair ?

I don't understand? Is it because Linda Blair was going to star in porn and was a sinner?

He came here on a basketball scholarship. It was Spring Break and he thought "What the hell?".

I wondered that too. How did an artifact dug up in Iraq become attached to a Ouija board in Georgetown?

reply

The Demon was after Merrin for a revenge match. Merrin was in Georgetown so the Demon had anticipated that he would be in the area. I believe the Pazuzu amulet from Iraq was a kind of omen. When Father Merrin discovered it he knew there would be another battle with the Demon he had already fought in Africa.

I guess it always helps to read the book.

reply

It's nice to learn what's in the book, but shouldn't be necessary.

reply

I agree! A movie should stand on its own! It shouldn't be like 2001: A Space Odyssey, where it's absolutely incomprehensible without reading the book.

reply

On account of stuff.

The demon was after the priests, primarily Karras, to make him lose his faith and ultimately corrupt him.

Pazuzu saw a way in to possess the child once Regan started playing with the Ouji board.

reply

The Demon wanted revenge against Merrin. Merrin had fought the Demon once before in Africa.

reply

Karras was the prime target, it knew Merrin was too strong to corrupt and its biggest threat.

reply

Well, that might surprise Blatty, but Karras was clearly an easy target. Something to keep the Demon busy until Merrin arrived.
