When is this going to be available on DVD????!!!!!!

Here is quite possibly my favorite movie and yet I cannot watch it because I do not have a VCR. I need to have the DVD of this so I can watch it. Does anyone know if Colmena is available on DVD?

Already out in the Uk.
I saw it in HMV.

Don't know when you wrote this.... the year is not stated, but I can confirm that this is yet another example where a DVD is available and for some reason Amazon doesn't appear to want visitors to IMDb to know about it.

The DVD is available from www.amazon.co.uk as a Region 2 PAL release. It can also be found cheaper at suppliers such as www.play.com. Picture quality is generally very good but the sound quality reflects the age of the source material. The soundtrack is the original Spanish (thankfully not overdubbed) and English subtitles are optional.

Wonderful film!

Thanks for the info "I am here"

However, I am now living in Region 1, so I guess I will still have to wait.

I saw this film on Friday 29 July 2006 on TCM. I was captivated by the performance of the little girl Ana Torrent. I wonder why the father and not her won an award for best acting. Because it played at 2am, I fell asleep when I was about to program its recording and I missed the first 50 minutes. I don´t know if that is the reason why I don´t understand when Ana writes something on a typewriter, I wonder what and to whom? Any clues?
In a later scene, when Ana escapes and they are searching for her, Ana´s mother burns under fire a handwritten and stamped letter. To whom is the letter supposed to be?

reply

We see the mother writing the letter earlier. It is to a dead brother she pretends is still alive.

Thanks very much for making this clear. I still wonder about my other question which you left unanswered about what it is that Ana writes on a typewriter in a scene shortly before she finds the man hiding from the authorities in the abandoned farm. I wonder if the answer to this is for everyone to think about.

reply

I am not sure Anna is writing anything, but is merely copying the writing habits of both her mother and father. She is playing on the typewriter.

Dead brother? Where did that come from? Did I miss something?

I assumed it was to an ex-lover away in the war, and when Ana is found, she decided that her children better be her priority. Husband too, note her put a blanket on him finally showing some tenderness.

reply

I have a copy of the movie on VHS and on the back liner notes its says she is writing to her dead brother.

I completely agree. That is why she burns the letter, she feels that there remains no hope in waiting for her true love. In the midst of loosing this man she has settled with a man who can provide for her but evidently is very distant. The soldier is her lover who has come back for her. She is never aware of his presence for he is not given the opportunity to reveal himself to her.
