Dumb question: What does 'milagro' mean?

In the sound and subtitles the servant/farmer/neighbors are referred to a number of times as "Milagros".

I don't know any spanish but for some reason was curious what "Milagros" meant (e.g. I recall the movie "The Milagro Beanfield War" from years back).

But when I search the internet it says the english translation is "miracle" which doesn't make any sense. I thought it might be "servant" or "farmer" or something?

reply

milagros (spanish) means miracles (english).
But it's also a spanish feminine name (just like Ana, Isabel, etc).
Take a look at the cast.

When the father went out and called Milagros it was to summon the old lady. The credits list her as Milagros, la criada. I think that translates as Miracle, the servant. Maybe Milagros was her nickname.

Milagros is a first female name in Spanish.
