3rd greatest Spanish film ?

It says in Trivia this was voted 3rd best Spanish film of all time by Spanish critics. I'm curious, what are the top two ? This movie I consider to be a true masterpiece, of all time, let alone Spanish films.

that was a 1996 survey..

not sure...some really good ones since then...

Pan's Labrynth
The Orphanage
Volver

I'd guess most critics would go with an Almodovar film nowadays for the top pick. I'd guess it would be All about My Mother or Talk To Her, though I'm going on the consensus of American audiences/critics; not sure which one Spanish audiences like the most.
Spain has quite a rich cinematic history, and I'm by no means an expert on it, but I imagine Spirit... is near the top. An incredible film.

Buñuel himself is Spanish, as was most of the cast and crew - with some Mexican paritcipation.

Buñuel worked in 3 different countries (Mexico, Spain, France), and many of his films were a joint production between the two, Virdiana included.

The same can be said about Pan's Labyrnith and Biutiful.

Buñuel himself was a Spaniard, and Viridiana was filmed in Spain with a Spanish cast, the story was set in Spain and as far as I know there was no Mexican funding involved - there's no case for saying Viridiana is a Mexican film.
I consider Viridiana to be a pretty good film but I still think this film is better. I've not watched El Verdugo, I probably need to check it out.

My favorite Spanish of all time, bar none, is Carlos Saura's Cria Cuervos. This movie is also the second movie starring Ana Torrent.

I'm surprised that this list does not include Cria Cuervos, or any film by Carlos Saura.
