'Tell Me'(128kbps), by Terry Kath: http://www.dawaynebailey.com/mp3/tellme.mp3
Tell me about the sun
Tell me about the rain
Tell me about the fields
Tell me about the plains
Will they come again, I don't know
Will they ever come again, I don't know
God above, is there not anything that we might do
to try and make this world of ours a better place for me and you? Oh
Tell me all about man
Tell me so I can understand
Tell me somebody all about wars
Please try and tell me just how much more
Oh pray it's not too late, oh no
Please everybody, everybody, everybody pray it's not too late,
it's not too late, whoah
Come on, mmmmm, yeah come on, let out a little prayer for us
Come on, say a prayer for us, please
(God Bless America today)
(God Bless America today)
For all the brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, ohhh the re-born
(God Bless America today)
(God Bless America today)
Please, everybody can't you see?
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x4)
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x3, today)
(God Bless America today)(God Bless the /sisters/brothers/fathers/mothers)
Please help us make our way
(God Bless America today)(God Bless / the children/ everybody/ the world today)
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x4)
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x3, today)
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x4)
Whoah yeah, yeah
(God Bless America today)(God Bless America x3, today)

Thanks goatlps - you rock! Great version, no hiss - incredible song.
shareNo sweat NCY.
...For anyone interested, (although I can no longer find the original source which linked me to the dawaynebailey.com rip)* I understand that this track was ripped from the 'ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE Collector's Edition [Limited Release]': http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=KIBF-343
At the time of writing, I believe the only way you can acquire the soundtrack (in CD form) is from this Japanese-only release (which is listed as 'Out of Print', however).
I don't know if this collector's edition (with extra soundtrack CD) will ever be released in it's homeland...How this edition came to receive a Jap-only release (probably after getting an expensive re-mastering) just goes to show how demented some people are. Braindead .
* When I first became obsessed with this song, and found this rip, a search for "terry kath" "tell me" mp3 would come up with very little. Now it's mentioned all over the net. I like to think I've helped spread the word about this little-known epic song. [smug]
I sent the link to a friend of mine who is a musician - here is the message I got back from him the next day:
"OK, now you've done it! I've spent that last 3 hours with the song playing non-stop, and trying to dig up info on it from the web! What a GREAT piece of music! Absolutely fantastic! Thank You!
I'm not kidding, i really love that song! Kewl!"
I wasn't quite THAT obsessed with it - I think the longest I have listened to it non-stop is about a half hour. But I have probably done that on more than one occasion.
NCY's friend wrote:"I've spent that last 3 hours with the song playing non-stop, and trying to dig up info on it from the web!"
I did exactly that myself...he must've eventually read of TK's disasterous demise too (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0441256/bio). Which kind of gives the song even more power.
Fortunately, I'm from England, so I don't mind all the 'God bless America' bits. If I were American I'd probably feel it was too cheesey (...unless I was one of those whoopin' an' a-hollerin' types )
Yeah I admit, I do think the "God Bless America" bits are a little cheesy - I usually just bump it back to the beginning of the song when they start.
Kind of reminds me of the song "Suite Madame Blue" by Styx - which I just love until the drawn-out ending where they say "America" over and over. Seems really out of place in the context of the song.
It is posted on Youtube in good quality audio with someone's homemade video. If you're techno enough you can find a way to snag it from there, if not, you can still hear it.
shareThe soundtrack is available on Vinyl.
As far as I know never on CD.
But I do have a rip on MP3 which is different to my Vinyl version! I have no idea where it came from.
What an am amazing song.
And in the context of the film, I don't think that all the "God Bless Americas" are cheesy.
When I think about Wintergreen's character- a former marine now looking to serve and protect - a guy who's conflicted with being a part of the system and protecting the people, even when they're 'hippies.'
He even chooses right over his partner and his idol.
I think about the conversation he has with the trucker in the first act.
All of that- and that final scene contrasted against the beautiful backdrop of Monument Valley... whew. (I've been there and words and film don't do it justice).
The song makes a huge statement in light of all that. Where are we as a nation? How have we gone so far astray? Does justice and liberty count for anything anymore? Can "right" ever win?
I find myself choked up when I listen to the song and contemplate what I've just seen.
This move is especially timely for today.
