I know it's not ostensively an action film, but those long-pan/ tracking shots for the road scenes and use of slo-mo, -and obviously the on-screen violence- remind me of George Miller's futuristic actioner, Mad Max (particularly the first one).
Do you think Guerico's style was an influence/ inspiration?

I try to study film as much as I can, and I couldn't pick up any "style" for this director. What you are talking about I am pretty sure was 100% attributable to the DP, not the director so much. The style throughout the film really varies. Seeing as how this guy had no future or past as a director, don't waste your time trying to overthink it, looking for something that isn't there...

The visual style in this movie is 100% Conrad Hall. Whatever Guercio says on the DVD commentary is BS; he did not know the first thing about directing when he was on set, and let Hall take care of everything aesthetically-related and Robert Blake everything performance-related.
