shareThat movie you are thinking about was called "Don't go to sleep." And it was about a girl named Jennifer who was killed by her father's drunk driving.
Jennifer, a stylish and fashionable early-teenage girl, came back as a ghost and killed all of the rest of the family, one by one, except the mother and her (Jennifer's) sister -- making it look like her sister did the killing.
Once all the family was dead except the mother (a nonbeliever in the ghost of Jennifer) and the other little girl (Jennifer's sister), the mother had the little girl committed to an insane asylum (mom believed the girl to be a murderer, rambling and screaming about Jennifer).
'Don't Go To Sleep' was a made-for-T.V. movie in 1983, and really wasn't that good of a movie. Had a very sweet, melancholy, childhood-dreams type theme song, however.
thanks!
share...I'm about to buy both films soon. I'm wondering about what you've said though. How exactly is it bad? Is something wrong with the acting or something? I've heard that the cinematography is pretty impressive for a made-for-tv film. Is that true? If it is indeed bad (based on your opinion), is it atleast watchable for the cinematography?
Without giving away any spoilers, I mean... I didn't read all of your above post because I didn't want to read any spoilers. I only read your last two sentences. So do you think you can answer my questions without providing any spoilers? Thanks..
I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way
Its an alright movie. Maybe I was just too "in love" with Jennifer (the ghost) as I was only a few years older than her -- to be frightened by her or the movie. And that themesong, bittersweet as childhood's end, could never be scary. Sounds like the happiest day of your life when you were a child, seven or eight years old.
No blood and gore. No whispers in the night. No classic scares.
But ghosts that kill are ghosts. And this movie involves a ghost.
...thanks.

Lets put it this way -- when you're a lovesick mid-teen, as I was, it's hard to be threatened by a fashionable, attractive 12-13 year old girl even if she's a dangerous ghost.
People die in this movie -- from fright and from 'accidents'. But still, the overall theme is lighthearted and maybe melancholy because Jennifer no longer lives and her little sister is really very sorry over her part in Jennifer's death. Still, the music is bittersweet to happy. The whole feel is.
Hi ckeddlemon:
You seem to know about a few of those old '70's films that were shown on regular TV; you know, back when there were only 3 channels to choose from (ABC, NBC & CBS)?
Well, if you can help me with this scene/title, It would be great; I've been wondering about this since I saw it as a kid:
There was a movie about some woman who moved into a house (the plot to this movie, Don't be Afraid of the Dark, seemed like it may have been the same one but I'm not sure!), a scary old house, and maybe someone was trying to scare her out of there, like some evil husband or someone trying to scare her, to get her to sell the property, like disgruntled family members, etc.
and she awakens at night to hear some weird sound and looks towards the doorway/hallway, and there's some weird mannequin bobbling from side to side, like one of those dress-makers torsos they use? Anyway, it was just kinda creepy and I just wondered if this was the film, OR if you knew which one I am talking about here. Would seem like it could have been something like 'Let's Scare Jessica To Death', but I think this was a made-for-TV movie instead. Not that they were all bad, like 'The Dead Don't Die', but still...not exactly Rated R horror classics either! Thanks in advance!
"The Film which you are about to see is an
account of a tragedy that befell a group of 5 youths."
