I saw the trailer for the new movie and it looks fantastic, then I read about the original some ... and I am interested... even tried watching it online but alas computer monitors give me a headache after a short time.
I only ask cause I had heard that Dark Night of the Scarecrow was on of the best made for TV Horror movies.... it wasn't bad... Actually it was pretty good.... but if that was the best I am not sure I want to waste my money on this.
Oh..lol! I was gonna suggest you watch it on youtube first. That sucks about the headache's..
Honestly I thought the one from the 70's was pretty good. You always have to take into consideration outdated films and the time frame they came out. I liked it..watched it at work on youtube one day and it got me excited for the remake coming out in august. The acting was pretty legit! Creepy music and sound effects were great..and the house itself was an awesome set. I think in terms of not being able to watch it online..I'd spend the 15 bucks..it's up there on the list of classic scary movies, and im sure you'd appreciate having it in your collection.
This is simply the scariest film I ever saw, but I don't imagine it will have the same impact today. There was a time and an age when this film would get you, but if they do the remake right it will probably be a more satisfying experience for modern viewers.
shareFirst of all, Don't Be Afraid of The Dark is much better than Dark Night of The Scarecrow(though it was good too).
However, we're talking about a made for TV film that's nearly 40 years old. I don't know how old you are, but whether you are 25 or 55, it's doubtful you'll be "amazed" by it.
Having said that, there is no doubt about this films cult status and legend. It did to us kids(and many adults) in '73 what Orsen Welles "War of The Worlds" broadcast did to many adults back in '38. This film is a piece of television history. I'm sure you've risked $16 on far more wasteful endeavors.
I say go for it!
It's not available direct from warner archives anymore. Maybe they're getting it ready for a legitimate DVD release. It's still burned on demand at Amazon though. I would wait.
