Dillinger had 70,000 dollars at one time?

I would bet that seventy grand in depression era dollars is almost the equivalent of a million dollars today.

Considering that at this time men were working long hard days for a dollar, that was almost twenty years wages, at that time.

I think it would have behooved him to go to Mexico or points beyond.

But noooooooooooooooo!

He and his gang (membership varied) netted some decent takes for the times. The Central National Bank of Greencastle, Indiana got them over $75,000 alone. High living and always being on the run went through it pretty fast.

according to an inflation calculator I found on the internet you were darn close - 70,000 in 1929 = 868681.04 in 2009

Yes he would have been better off to go on to Mexico but the point of that scene was to show he just couldn't because he just had to go on living his dream...
