Brilliant Stroke Of Casting!

Watch The Battle Of Algiers (1966), then Day Of The Jackal (1973).

Note that in The Battle Of Algiers, Jean Martin is cast as Colonel Mathieu, the ruthless French commander responsible for defeating the Algerian revolutionaries.

Now check out Day of the Jackal, a movie about French ex-military officials who are so disgruntled about DeGaulle granting Algeria independence, they want to assassinate him.

So who do the filmmakers get to play Wolenski, the charge d'affairs for the disgruntled ex-military officials?

Why none other than Jean Martin!

It's like his character stepped out of the one movie and right into the next!

Ya gotta believe this was no accident.

Yeah interesting choice of Jean Martin as Wolenski, although as some say in an earlier thread maybe an odd one since he doesn't match the novel's description of a huge hulking thug who can kill with his bare hands.
