Lapel insignia

Hi

I noticed that Lebel and some of the ministers/civil servants wore a small lapel insignia. It looked likea small metallic bar, red or dark color, going from the lapel button hole to the side of the lapel.
Does anyone know its significance, if any?

Thanks!

Likely, they were identification pins (or tags) for the benefit of security personnel. Anyone entering the ministry -- visitors or government workers -- had to wear one. It bore a different color every day and indicated what floor or section the visitor was permitted to enter. Nowadays, visitors to government buildings in almost every country have to wear similar devices, in the form of I.D. tags hanging from the neck.

It's a Legion of Honor lapel thread. Lebel wears the silver thread of a commandeur.

Yes. The Legion of Honour.
Also, on the day of the parade, special badges are given to uniformed police as a precaution, because they think the Jackal might disguise himself as a policeman.
