The boo boo that always makes me wince is when the Jackal is at the customs post on the French Italian border. Coming in the opposite direction is a gold mk 1 Ford Escort! They didn't start building them until 1968, ...as we all know, the film is set in 1963!
Wow, that's a glaring error for all to see. I always shudder when I see the wine glass in the hotel restaurant - everyone knows that 80mm rim diameter glasses weren't introduced until 1970 and he would really have had a 76.2mm glass. It makes me cringe so I don't know where to look. Then there's the type 1131897 sauna coals. Come on, not 1131897A as per French regulations 1967, for God's sake? What's wrong with these people, this sort of blatant carelessness ruins the film for everyone! Anyway, don't get me started.

Thanks Love, gave me a good chuckle!! While I don't feel it's fair of me to criticize another person's different tastes, there are clearly people bothered by errors much smaller and less consequential than what it takes to rile me, and obviously you as well. If Sally Field had whipped out a cell phone to call her hubby in Spielberg's "Lincoln", well that would have hurt the film's credibility for me, but being off a few years on the model of car in the background, not so much. Is there any chance that some of those who post about such matters are at least partly motivated by the desire to impress us with their eagle eyes and encyclopedic knowledge? Nah, and that's certainly never at play when I make note of a film goof, cough, cough.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much. -- ALOTO
To be fair, there is a pretty large subset of people who know cars pretty well. I'm not a big "car guy" myself, but I know probably a half dozen guys that might have been able to spot the same thing the OP did--they seem to yack on about classic cars enough to make me think they would anyway. Maybe I should have one of them watch the film, without mentioning any of this, and see?
Then you have train geeks, gun aficionados, etc.
Not to mention, in 1973, there'd probably be more people (not just car hobbyists, but some casual consumers) who might notice a model that came out just five years ago, being in a film set ten years ago.
Didn't ruin it for me, as blissfully ignorant as I am about such things --but I can see that as a more significant goof than the measurements of wine glasses or such (yeah I know that was a joke), given the larger subset of people with interests in cars.
ETA: I see that in the goofs section, there are eight separate car goofs (involving models newer than the year film is set). That is pretty significant (again, for me, ignorance is bliss though). Oh, and one train goof (yay train geeks! Though I'm not one of them either ).
I hear what you say :-) It just feels like some people want to be seen as knowing. It's when it gets in the way of enjoying the story that it slows us all down.
