This should be on DVD.

It's pretty ridiculous that nowadays when so much crap is being rereleased on DVD, and by crap I do mean that much of it is indeed pure crap, that a classic like this remains obscure. It's a really good film, one of Siegel's best and someone should put out a comprehensive disc of it.

I totally agree. I saw this on television years ago, and was very impressed. I wonder if there is a site where you can place votes for films on dvd. I know such a thing exists for television shows.

For me this film is a highlight of Walter Matthau's career.

reply

Yes I agree. For me it is this and A New Leaf.

Indeed... one of the best genre movies, one of Lalo Schifrin's best scores, and neither is available in a proper version... Hopefully it's just a matter of time.

Hi

I totally agree with your sentiment. Charley Varrick is a fantastic film which is overdue on DVD. Other classic films which deserves the DVD-treatment:

Point Blank
Prime Cut
The Birdmen
Space(Miniseries from the eighties)
The Brotherhood of the Bell(Starring Glenn Ford)
Man Hunt(Starring Walter Pidgeon)
Male Rouge(Already exits on DVD, but the current version has awful picture quality)

Kind regards, Paul

i have to comment pauglase - "man hunt" with walter pidgeon is one of my all-time favorites, but it seems impossible to find, so i have not seen it in years. agree with you about most of the others on your list also, particularly "point blank." in fact i bought "point blank" from amazon twice but had to return them both as neither would play properly on my dvd player. be careful if you decide to buy it.
assume "male rogue" (sic) is actually "rogue male" the remake of man hunt, not nearly as good as the original but not bad.

reply

Yeah it should be just like a bunch of other '70s crime flicks.

Straight Time
The Outfit
The Anderson Tapes
The Seven-Ups
The Friends Of Eddie Coyle
