Best scene . . . according to Siegel

He was pleased with the whole picture, but singled out the scene with Vernon and Palfrey in the corral. They shot it in one take, timed against the setting sun, and then had to do it again--the actors perfect in both takes.

Yup, that was a beautifully acted scene, perfectly shot, with both actors at the top of their game.

reply

Its perfect and it reflects the "miracles and risk" of old-time movie-making.

Modernly, to get the effect that the scene gives us - a shadow slowly filling the valley as Vernon and Palfrey have to make SURE that they don't blow their lines and "miss the sun" -- they'd just "smear in some CGI."

Back then, the making of the movie could be as much of an adventure as the watching of the movie.

Sans theft, Tarrantino has nothing, the pos copycat. This scene says everything you need to know about those two characters; it really fleshes them out fully. Great scene, not my personal favorite though.

reply

Not my personal favorite either, but as the above poster observes, it shows us how each of the characters had a life, a personality. Like the scene where the Reno bank president walks over to a girl to push her on the swing.

reply

It was the most artistically ambitious scene so that tracks.
