Has this film held up well?

I'm a huge Tarantino/Cohen Brothers fan. I stumbled upon this (possible) gem earlier today after hearing that the "blowtorch/pliers" dialogue in Pulp Fiction being from this movie originally.
Excited to check it out... My question is, has the film held up well? Is it one of those "well it inspired other great films so it's worth a watch" type of films-- or is it still a genuinely great film?

It's time for this film to be remade put it that way.

It was kind of remade already..."No Country for Old Men" has the same premise and types..Javier Bardem is Joe Don Baker, Josh Brolin is Walter Matthau, Tommy Lee Jones is...William Schallert?

Still, hard to REPLACE Matthau, Baker, and even Schallert for a straight up remake. Or Don Siegel, whose "master's touch" was undeniable...tight and wry and tough..kind of like Elmore Leonard.

I could see Billy Bob Thornton as Varrick...he was an interesting Matthau substitute in "The Bad News Bears."

Good call with BBT In a remake.

Still, it's a 70s crime flick that probably should stay there.

Only one response in a year and a half?

Well I waited for 17 months to decide if I should watch this movie or not. I guess it looks like I'm gunna be passin' on this one.

It's definitely worth a watch. I just saw it now for the first time.

You wait 17 months for permission to watch a movie?

Start the thing then turn it off if you don't care for it.
