Really enjoyed this

Wow, I really enjoyed this movie. I remember Kay Lenz way back in Rich Man Poor Man book 2... And I didn't know William Holden could be so funny ("do you believe God is dead?" "I didn't even know he was sick")...

Sweet movie. If you don't like this one, you aint' got no heart, as they say in Brooklynese.

I just rented this out last week and was very impressed. I liked the part when the middle aged men would talk about their hang-ups and the things they wanted. Breezy was absolutely hot in this movie and her character was extremely likable. This was also a great time capsule of Los Angeles in 1973.

Too bad there aren't many people on this earth like her character, non-materialistic that is.

This was one of my favorite lines in BREEZY. Holden was adorable.

Have a blessed Good Friday and Happy Easter

I'm watching it now and that line about God cracked me up! Holden always did have great comedic timing (Sunset Blvd, Stalag 17, Network just to name a few) And he had some gems in this one, too. He was great.

This was a gem of a movie that I stumbled upon last night
for the first time. I too loved the essence of Los Angeles
during this time, because that L.A. is totally gone now.

However, my one pause was that I really did think that both characters
looked REALLY old and REALLY young. Holden had to have been 55 making
this film. Kay looked like a 15 year old. That kind of creeped me out during
the first 'love' scene ~ but I got over it.

All in all ~ this film is worth the watch!

reply

Agreed. Holden was about 55 going on 62 thanks to his smoking and drinking. They should have picked a 40-something character. With that exception, it was a great flick.

Kay was the correct age to play Breezy, she was born in 1953, which makes her about 20 when they filmed the movie. Holden, born in 1918 was 55 and looked much older. Kay is now the age that Holden was when he made the movie! If Holden were still alive, he would have turned 90 this year.

I like the fact that this film keeps a very positive and open mind. Eastwood doesn't condemn the characters for falling in love, he actually gives them a fair shake. I truly do believe that love can cross appearance, age, and many barriers provied that it's legal.

The ending is really great stuff. I think it's wonderful that Holden goes with his heart and stops letting his friends prejudices persuade him otherwise. Breezy isn't played as some teenie bopper looking for a sugar daddy to take care of her and that's what makes the film/ending work so well.

I like "Breezy" too; many of Clint Eastwood's directorial style elements are in this film. He is a very consistent director.

It's hard to find someone who could've played the role though. You need someone who was charming but naturally so, not someone obviously putting on the charm. Also someone within his age group who was a subtle natural actor, not the theatrical over the top ones associated with Holden's peers. Someone who was cynical, tired and weary yet could be witty regardless, someone who has played these type of characters blindfolded. I can't think of someone who could do all that in a romantic film.

It is an interesting discovery for me and I don't remember how I stumbled upon it by accident on Youtube. Interesting theme. I wouldn't like to be with younger women, personally. I found, for myself, that I need someone very near my age. But, it seems to be an interesting story. Oh, I was 5 years old in 1973.

I agree, it's a really excellent movie, but I think Clint Eastwood is a very good director.

I love the line about God. This is a very sweet, well-meaning film that treats its characters with respect. 7/10 stars from me.

Holden has that wit in films like:

Sabrina
Bridge on the River Kwai
Stalag 17
Even in Sunset Blvd
