This movie really scared me.
It is the best pre twentieth century satanic/horror house horrors and Amicus (not Hammer) knew how to make them. Hammer was awesome, but, Amicus had the sense of dread to them (very dark fairy tales). That is what made the company so unique. And... the company is back in production.
But... when first watching this on vhs in the summer of 84 when I was only seven, I often would sleep in the family room at night. This film made my parents question the idea of me watching more horror films.
I know own the dvd and it hasn't lost its charm.
