the guy Catherine kept seeing had no eyes and bloody stump, the woodsman whose wife was raped only got his hand chopped off (not that loosing a had isnt bad enough, can someone explain that to me?
sharePossible Spoiler: I came on here with the same question. I figured that it would be explained in the flashback. Up until they cut off his hand I was waiting for his eyes to be plucked out for looking defiant. I guess it was for the fright effect because it was never explained.

Silas Sr. may have committed suicide later in life. Silas jr. suffered the same fate, only his eyes being shot out wasn't self-inflicted.
