I was left with the impression from the last scene of the two of them smiling and looking out the train window smiling that they were gonna do a little more traveling together. Of course, by today's standards that would be kidnapping but in the early 70's in Europe it might not have been viewed that way.

I'm not sure. I think he probably kept in touch with her after taking her to her Grandmother's house.
