I'll take Saturday morning tv over Cartoon Network. For one thing, the amount of great content has declined and their lineups got kind of repetitive. In the 70s, you got like 6 or 7 hours of great programming, on three networks. yeah, they reran the shows; but, you could always switch to the other network and sample what they had. Plus, you had a lot of variety, with adventure cartoons, humor cartoons, live action shows, new cartoon showcases (ABC Saturday Superstar Movie), films (CBS Children's Film Festival), and Schoolhouse Rock. To me, the only downside was the network restrictions, in response to the ACT, pretty much killing the adventure shows, apart from the Super Friends. This first season of the Super Friends was pretty creative, using environmental concerns and natural disasters to give the heroes something to do, without violence and while fulfilling the educational mandate. However, it got pretty boring, which is why I welcomed Challenge of the Super Friends, with the Legion of Doom. Finally, you got a version that was a bit closer to the comics, even if they couldn't hit each other (or even touch each other, really).
Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!
