Weird, cerebral and not suitable for kids

I recently revisited this series as an adult.
When I was a child, I found this series weird, cerebral, cold and bizarre.
As an adult, nothing has changed.

The first episode, "Beyond the Farthest Star" the crew are quite the galactic a-holes to strand a sentient alien begging not be left alone on the farthest planet.

They coldly just continue on, leaving another being in pain and suffering. Haunting, scary, and weird.

Next episode is literally the V'ger storyline from the Motion Picture - and energy cloud comes rampaging through galaxy consuming everything in its path.

The next episode- intergalactic sirens seduce the men (as if they needed encouragement) and drain their lifeforces in slumber chambers. oh my. how did this make it pass censors of the day.
