Episode written by Larry Niven!

"The Slaver Weapon" probably my favorite of all the episodes was written by famous sci fi author Larry Niven!

I do like this series overall. The episodes that were totally lame and there were a few, are more than compensated for by the great ones such as this one.

I haven't read any Larry Niven work, but from what I hear the aliens in the slaver weapon originated from ringworld universe. I have also read that the story was adapted from one of his ringworld stories. So basically its a crossover story.

As I stated on another thread, I consider this episode to be the best in the series.

Larry Niven wrote the RINGWORLD series that heavily influenced the HALO Video Game series.

I loved Mr. Niven's episode "The Slaver Weapon" as well. However, this episode was one of the reasons Mr. Roddenberry gave orders for the animated Trek NOT to be considered canon. The back story of the Slavers and the Kzinti created too much historical conflict with the original series. A real shame since this is considered, by most hardcore Trekkers anyway, to be among the finest of the animated episodes.

I haven't actually watched this episode yet, but I always thought it was pretty cheezy for Niven to just rework one of his published short stories. "Oh, yeah, sure, I'll write an episode of Star Trek!" [tap tap tap] "Done! Where's my check?"

'The Sound of Music' twice an hour, and 'Jaws' 1, 2 and 3.

Stunningly good episode. The one that got me thinking, these were stories they couldn't afford to make (effects cost) live, especially with the 3rd season budget cut.
