Just an opinion
Okay, I have something to say here and I'm sure it will take quite a bit of flack. I have watched Star Trek off and on for years now and enjoy most of it. I know that some of it isn't realistic, some of it is badly written, some of the effects (especially back in the day) are horrible and I still love it. That is the fun of Star Trek, hokey plot lines and okay acting. I read the negative comments everyone leaves about Kirk, episodes of TNG and especially about Voyager and its very disheartening. As a writer I look at this and realize that there is nothing anyone could do to make everyone happy. I read comments where people said the technical issues in Voyager were horrible and unrealistic. Its all unrealistic, at least in our time period. Take it for what it is, its a TV show. Of course there are going to be episodes, characters, aliens and whatnot that you dont like, but that doesn't make it a bad series. Warp cores, Vulcans, Peace on Earth and star ships are all fiction and people take it so literally. I am not saying go out and love every episode or even series, but I honestly believe that some people are just too critical. A writer sits down to entertain. At some point that writer asks for help from someone that knows more about Star Trek than they do, but to get every detail right they would have to enlist every trekkie on Earth. All I'm saying is, cut them some slack. You never know who reads this stuff.
I love the original Series. The Characters, the social issues, the technology and the horrible effects.
I love TNG. That crew and their exploits helped change the trek universe for ever.
I really enjoy Voyager. It really gives me a feel for the original Trek. The unknown, the new aliens and the sexy women.
I like STE. Its fun, its different. Its not my favorite but other than the opening theme song, I don't hate it.
I don't really know DS9 yet. So far, I haven't seen anything I don't like about it, I just haven't taken the time to sit down and watch it.
I've never seen the animated series...so that might really suck!!
These are good shows, that people put a lot of work, time and effort into. Most of them went for many years so obviously someone was watching them. Still today most of them are on TV at some point (Except TNG which I can't figure out) and that proves that people are still watching them. I read things all the time like, "I hated Voyager, but I have it on DVD." Well the producers and media people did their job, you bought into the Voyager experience.
