The music,Ugh.
The music for Star Trek:TAS in my opinion was very lame.It didn't sound anything like the Original live action series my Alex courage. Also, who was the cat like creature that stood in for Uhura? Thanks.
shareThe TAS opening & ending credits music was Alex Courage's TOS theme played backward; give it another listen. :) The cat lady was Lt. M'Ress, a Caitian, and the weird looking guy with 3 arms & 3 legs was Lt. Arex, an Edoan.
shareArex stood in for Chekov, as Koenig opted out of the series as an actor, though he did write one of the episodes, "The Infinite Vulcan."
shareActually, Koenig was asked to opt out because they couldn't afford him. Same for the music. Ever notice that every single female character on the show is voiced only by Majel and Nichelle? The animated series had a very limited budget.
The original series music, while owned by Paramount, was still licensed through either BMI or ASCAP. Since Star Trek: TAS was technically a "different" series, using the music from TOS would have cost a bundle.
The most cost efficient decision would be to write new music for this series which could be used repeatedly without having to pay royalties for its use, because it was written specifically for that series.

I thought the music was very good. Only thing missing was the USS Enterprise fanfair.
It had a real dreamlike feeling to it. I am sure there is a track from the Origional Series in there.
The mellow 'spock is high on spores & swinging in the trees' theme music.
i noticed they used a good amount of this on other shows by Filmation.

To me the theme music that Yvette Blais and Jeff Michael co-composed is inspired by the original live-action series theme music that Alexander Courage composed.

come on folks
I like that 70's cartoon music. its not that bad, but i do like retro things. lol
I thought the music ROCKED. Tremolo cello, rising ostinato, triplet arpeggios... and a whole bunch of other Italian words. Dudes, this stuff is classic. Granted, I agree that it's only about 3 mins of music spliced & repeated for 30 mins. But isn't that what most techo is like today? :P
The cat chick cracked me up. She was AWESOME! Majel Barret doing these little throat purrs after every sentence: "Aye aye sir...rrrrowWrr." Come on peeps, you GOTTA LUV IT!
Well, considering what passes for animation these days (check out the TEEN TITANS cartoon for verification) the cartoon was visually stunning...Altho the music used for the show was integrated into various other Filmation productions, fans probably still compare it when the Alexander Courage action scores were used over and over in various episodes of the original series.
"Live long and prosper"
The music is all right, on its own, but the constant repetition gets extremely annoying. Filmation was really bad about this, moreso than Hanna-Barbera (although they were pretty bad in the later 70's).

The music has a little bit of 70s funk sound in it here and there, but on the whole it conjures the feel of Alexander Courage's TOS music without actually being the original TOS music. So, yeah, I too think it's great for what it is.
And I agree, Lt. M'Ress. OMG, it's a scream hearing Majel do those purrs!

The opening theme was fine. But the REST of the music--ai-yi-yi. Don't get me started on the "we're ending this ep on a wacky funny note" music!
