Apparently they explained it in the fourth season of Enterprise. The OS Klingons were the result of some kind of genetic manipulation, and it also made the subjects stronger, which is why they were the ones sent to deal with the Federation. There must have been a technique to reverse the process, since Kor, Kang, and Koloth switch from old-style to bumpy-headed between the OS and DS9. I got this from wikipedia, though (haven't seen E: Season 4 yet), so don't quote me.

In the 4th season there was a 3 arch story line with Dr. Arik Soong great-grandfather of the 24th Century cyberneticist Dr. Noonien Soong("Borderland", "Cold Station 12", and "The Augments") were the ep's in these he steals genetically enhanced "Augment" embryos left from the Eugenics Wars.

They go on a rampage until they are stopped by the crew of the enterprise but in the wreckage of a Klingon Bird Of Prey they find some of the genetic materila

In Affliction & Divergence" it tell why the Klingons have the flat forheads they try to make them self's better but things go very wrong

OS Klingons stronger? If the original series Klingons were stronger (they appeared to have equivalent strength to Earthmen judging from the barroom brawl in "The Trouble With Tribbles" and the sword fights in "Day of the Dove"), what would that make the later series, bumpy headed Klingons? :P

reply

I think that was just so the fights didn't end too quickly. They're many many many times stronger than humans. They must be stronger than Vulcans, and Cassidy Yates remarks in DS9 that "Vulcans are 5 times stronger than Humans". They're up there with the Jem'Hadar, although their raw strength is never really compared. You could say that only Worf's martial arts skills gave him the advantage.

Guys, it was a make-up change. Although the double episode solving it was excellent, with some really good Klingon scenes and characters, it was rather silly. The debate over it was mocked in Trials and Tribble-ations, where Bashir lists most of the arguments considered.

There was also a DS9 episode that Captain Sisko travels back into time to the original star trek tribble episode. (The trouble with tribbles original trek.)
Doctor Bashir and chief miles obrian ask Worf the original klingon's look. It sounded like that he said that during the past some Kligon's had to be genetically altered before they could be allowed to travel safely in space. He also said it wasn't something klingon's liked to talk about.

Also three of Star Trek's original klingon's were friends of Jadzia Dax in episode of Deep Space nine but all three had the now the typically bump head.

There once was a little black kitten called Angel.

If memory serves it was supposed to make them stronger but instead it mutated into a virus that made them weaker and more human like.

Before Star Trek Enterprise tv series I saw them evolve when
Star Trek The Next Generation tv series started.

reply
