Yesteryear Thoughts

I can see why this was shelved from being a live action episode. The sets would have been ridiculously expensive.

Since Spock's childhood would have little bearing on his life, I guess we could assume that the Andorian First Officer would be serving aboard another starship in the original timeline.

Interesting that the scene in the new movie borrows from the teasing scene in this episode. I guess its respects to D.C. Fontana.

I would've thought that after the events of City on the Edge of Forever, absolutely no one would ever be allowed to use the Guardian to go back in time.

I think that is one of the reasons that the animated series remains non canon.

And THAT totally insipid voice they gave the Guardian - everything else was PERFECT!

But it was clear Freiberger was haunting the Voice actor casting sessions - I HATE him, and the twat they got to do the Guardian. I'd happily redub it for free!

Crap voicework - hope the guy went back to flipping burgers!

(please don't tell me it was Jimmy!)

It was. Sorry.

Tragic.

I agree the voice acting did suck

The animation was also horrible although enough shortcuts had to be made to make Star Trek The Animated series happen but that is no excuse for the bad voice acting.

reply

The actors individually came in and read there lines. There was little acting going on.

Wasn't nearly everyone Jimmy? He did tons of voice work in TOS, too. I love his radio ad for the machine gun in A Piece of the Action.

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I'm watching TOS remastered on blu-ray, and in the episode Amok Time, there is a new establishing shot of the arena and I could swear the city in the background was the same as the city in Yesteryear. Nice homage.

Still gotta come back and ask that when this is blu-rayed (and it will) that they re-dub with a stronger take. I can't believe Jim Doohan made such a poor showing without 'input' from directors etc. He was a great VO performer!

RUINS this otherwise gem! That vocal work is so sub-par it is beneath contempt!

Maybe his Son Chris could redo it?
