The way this series was shown there was a season 1 of 16 episodes and season 2 of 6 episodes.

Were there intentionally just 22 episodes made that happen to have been split like this or should season 2 have been longer but was cut short?

It was only attended to be two seasons of Star Trek The Animated Series.
