'The Counter-Clock Incident'

The last episode was one of the best animated ones. The ending is quite well done. Sarah April's last words (the last line spoken in the show) are somewhat metaphorical. She says "it gave all of us a second life". I've always thought of this line as actually referring to the animated series which literally gave TOS and the characters a "second life". Remember this made in 1974 when there wasn't any hopes for a new live action Trek in the future.

"A voice from behind me reminds me. Spread out your wings you are an angel."

I agree the ending of Star Trek TAS was done quite well

I always wondered though...in the counter-clock universe, are you born in a box buried 10 feet underground?

reply

Thinking about that reverse universe gave me a headache, but I think you have it right. "From tomb to womb". Bacteria probably create life instead of decomposing it.

I would resolve it by saying that the "anti-time" universe is like the other side of a two-way street. Traffic on BOTH sides is "moving forward", but in opposite directions. It's only if you "cross the divide" that things are moving in the "wrong direction" -- which is what happens when people from "our universe" visit the "anti-time" universe.

Thought it was cool Capt. April got to command the Enterprise one last time. Would have made a funny episode if he had pulled into a starbase with a ship of babies and children.

reply

I think that a goof in this episode is that since Spock was not the oldest crew member on the Enterprise, he should not have been the oldest after the crew were "reverse" aged. McCoy and/or Scotty should have been older since they were already older at the normal age.

I watched this episode many years ago when I saw it on Nickelodean----some 21 years ago....and loving it then. I never knew it was the last episode.

I saw it again last night here on the imdb, and was moved it and the show, and remembered just how good this show was. Youtube got me here since I was watching the intro for memory's sake and wanted to watch an episode. I happen to remember this one.

When Capt April and his wife have the choice of reliving their lives and Capt April says there is nothing he could do to improve upon the time with her and they embrace and kiss.... I got choked up. I did :) I nearly cried at 33, moved by the good scene and what it says to all of us :)

'The Counter-Clock Incident' was the last epsiode of the ST AS.

The science is terrible but the characters, story and message are pure Star Trek. Give me this *any* day over the last live action ST 'Turnabout Intruder'!

I did think that the alternate universe was a bit bizarre, with children I suppose coming out of the ground and eventually re-entering their "daughter's wombs"? But the idea of a universe with time running backwards seems an actual possibility.
