Why did they have to use different music rather than TOS themes?

I don't know, but I wish they'd composed more music because they sure do use the same cues a lot. There's a particularly cutesy one (seemed to play whenever a character winks at the audience) that really annoys me.

Excellent question. I think it was financial. Most of the music in the series was stock that was also used in other Filmation cartoons. There were SOME cues that were unique to this series, though. They sound almost as good as the old series music.
