great cartoon 95%...

BUT

the one episode where

the devil shows the crew a good time

then the crew gets beamed to america
during the witch hunts and are accused of
being witches by the "evil" americans

oh my GOD this episode was lame!

I liked the episode, but I also like Lucifer too, so I'm biased. But seriously I'm shocked the episode got past the sensors. It put Satan in a good light, and depicted early American history negativly. The sensors were either asleep on this one or devoted Satanists!

not really. in the end i think it was...uh spock (if not then bones but im sure it was spock) who yet again quotes some bible message about the devil is now twice kicked out of heaven & once saved. some sort of bible prophecy along those lines does depict lucifer like that anyway...it all looks good but in the end the devil will get it. but this is a real bible prophecy in christains anyway...so if this cartoon story was continued fanatically be some christians...they could eventually write it out all the way to finish that prophecy.

i actually was wondering aobut it watching this episode the first time...having the same thought you did...until that line or two in the end was said, then i remembered that old bible prophecy myself lol

nimoy is known to make spock slightly jewish in faith...cuz he's jewish himself lol

You should also take into consideration that the episode is called "The Magicks of Megas-Tu" and that this spelling of"magic" was invented by Aleister Crowley, the father of modern satanism.

To the first poster: I don't believe you have the story straight. Not that it was a terrific episode (and I'm not defending it), but you said that the crew got beamed to america... and that they are accused of being witches by the evil americans.

They weren't beamed to America. They were inside another dimension wherein beings can control mystical and magical elements. They weren't even in normal reality, let alone on Earth. I believe the place was called "Megas-Tu." It just happened to look like Earth. "Miri" (TOS) went so far as to have the North American continent on the planet. Just because it looks like Earth doesn't mean it is.

Furthermore, they weren't accused of being witches by Americans, they were put on trial for their predjudices by Megans... who were aliens that once lived on Earth... and it was the Megans who were accused of being witches because of their unusual properties.

I'm sorry, I just had to correct you because it didn't seem like you got the story straight.

But I agree, it did have a backward message regarding Kirk and crew embracing the devil and acting like he was a good guy. I don't know what kind of message they were trying to get across to kids on a SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON of all things. Haha!

The writers actually wanted it to be an episode where the Enterprise meets God, but NBC said they couldn't do that (blasphemy?), but they said it would be ok if they met the devil, instead, so they switched it up.

The episode seemed very trippy to me, lots of nice colour patterns floating around.

They were trying to get across that we demonize what we don't understand, and they were correct. If you think there is literally a "Satan" as described in the bible then you are a moron.

They were originally supposed to meet God. NBC-tv had them replace God with Satan. That's right NBC-tv says Satan is OK for Saturday morning tv but God isn't.

Reminds me of how CBS objected to Linus quoting the Gospel of Luke in A Charlie Brown Christmas. Charles Schulz insisted they keep it in, however, and it was aired as planned.

Magics of Mega-2 was one of the lamest episodes of the animated series.

It would have been a third season episode of ST:TOS had it been done live.
