Bill Daley never wanted to be picked
by a contestant. So why was he on the show?
shareI'm watching right now, and he always never wants to get pick. My guess ima that's him just acting or he really doesn't want to but yeah why would he be on the show so much?

I've been watching the episode with Bill and he's a riot. In today's episode he tossed his chair while making a joke and accidently broke it. His antics are great.

To see Dawson's name and intellectual in the same sentence is ironic. You must be thinking of a different game show. The guy was an attention whore, and the others didn't like him all the well. There are articles on this topic.

It is bad to drink Jobus rum. Very bad.share
Last months reruns didn't even have Dawson on the panel, and the show was still funny. I have no idea why some people had a fixation on this guy.
I think this is just a 'my personal tastes are better than yours' pissing match.
Today's Dawson mind blowing intellect:
For $5000...."Busy as..." [blank}
Ignorant red head guest gives her answer "...a beaver"
Of course she picked Dawson, because no one else would have responded with his answer:
Busy as "a bee"
Sure glad dickie was there to dazzle us with his intellect.
"Busy as a bee" was the obvious answer. It's "busy beaver," not "busy as a beaver."
I loved the show with Richard on, even though his ego and attitude sometimes annoyed me, and even though I was sick of him always getting picked to play the bonus round, as good as he was. The problem with the shows after Richard left is that they move at such a fast pace that they're less engaging. And without Richard there to temper things, Brett and Charles became too over-the-top. There's a difference between smart, subtle humor, which a lot of them displayed before Richard left, and obnoxious and senseless mugging for the cameras. Not to mention that I don't like a lot of the other new celebrity guests they had after Richard left, especially those no-name actresses who were less memorable and entertaining than Mary Wickes, Fannie Flagg (who still appeared but more sporadically), and even Patti Deutsch.
Fanny Flagg was very funny and a respected author. The banter between Brett and Charles played a big part in the success of the show. Lots of other semi regulars were very funny as well. Sorry pal, but according to ratings at the time, the show really didn't revolve around Dawson. I can think of a lot of other actors that should have been invited, but at the time the network wars between the big three in the '70's often gave preference to CBS actors. Today would be a different line-up, but more potty mouth, so it couldn't be pulled off today and be a family show.
shareAgain, my point was less about Dawson specifically and more about how the show changed for the worse in other ways after Dawson left. I wonder how much of it was in the editing.
shareI guess you really have to be into Dawson to feel that way. I can name a lot of panelists that were funny and smart. Bill Daley has made me laugh while watching these reruns.
Family Feud was a show that Dawson brought his best talents to.

I met Bill Daily at a Q & A once and asked him if he had any dirt on Dr. Bellows. Without missing a beat he responded "There's a lot of dirt on Dr. Bellows- he's dead!"
Now THAT'S funny.
Probably for the money. I didn't see him work much after the Bob Newhart Show.
shareBill went back into stage theater. I don't think IMDb pays much attention to stage credits, but he was reasonably successful with his stage tours.
shareHe still worked quite a bit, but had two great stints between I Dream of Jeanie and The Bob Newhart Show.
I never found him funny on Match Game though. He tried WAY too hard to be funny, but he never was. It got to the point where his antics just became annoying.
I understand what you mean, and in many cases that holds true, but on some shows he's rather funny.
shareOne aspect of his "trying too hard" that wore thin very quickly: He seemed to be under the impression that the word "doorknob" was inherently hilarious.

Granted... sometimes Bill wasn't funny as well.
shareI often wondered the same thing. The guy's career ended after "I Dream of Jeannie" and the "Bob Newhart Show" so you would of thought the guy would be more humble. It was sad to watch actually. A bigger star probably would have been funny playing that game.
