I did not like his little "ACT" whenever they got to the fast money rounds. Maybe once or twice , his schtick would be funny, but not every freaking time. The man is at his best in supporting roles and should stick to that on Match Game as well.
In the humor department, Charles Nelson Reilly owned both of them. He was so funny and had such a dry wit.
I saw a couple of episodes a few days ago where Gene had just returned from a trip to China and was going on and on about it, to the point where he wore a Chinese soldier's uniform or something in the first episode and then was still going on and on about the trip in the next episode (although he had on his normal three piece suit by then). At one point in the midst of one of his stories, CNR just gave him his classic, million dollar deadpan stare and said, "Why don't you tell us about your recent trip to Mainland China...AGAIN?" His delivery, his facial expressions...I don't know what it was, he was just gold.
Loved him!
And yeah, I didn't like Bill Daily at all either. Even Bill Anderson, the country singer, was funnier than Bill Daily, and he wasn't really trying very hard to be funny.

While I, too, enjoyed CNR's humor and banter with Brett, his inclusion as a "regular" on the panel was obviously lifted from the Paul Lynde-as-center-square-and-pansy-in-residence concept on Hollywood Squares reply share

And also like Paul Lynde, CNR seemed to relish this role and play it to the hilt at every opportunity. If he found it offensive, I assume he would not have chosen to perpetuate it. reply share
Unlike Paul Lyned, he didn't always tell jokes or goof around. Sometimes he just got right to the card. But when he did joke around, he was very witty and funny. Another difference was that I believe that Lynde always knew what he was going to be asked so he had a joke at the ready. I dunno if he came up with them or if they were written by someone else for him. But CNR, I think, is ad libbing. Seems like MG is more spontaneous and sometimes it works, as it does with CNR and Brett and yet fails with Bill Daley and Gene.
In defense of Bill, he did get a slow start as a panelist. But as time went by he became funnier and better in giving correct answers. I've watched episodes for the last two years and Bill improved over time.
Another similar regular celebrity I didn't like on Match Game was Dick Martin. He would give stupid answers and then bask in the attention of the boos from the audience.
I agree. I'm starting to like him less than Patty Douche. Last time I watched, she actually matched a few times while Bill keeps giving the same rotten and terrible answers. Why did they even have him on at all? He is just terrible.
Yes, his "don't pick me" act got really old really fast. He could have gotten the same point across by simply looking away...which probably would have been more effective, since his exaggerated mugging always seemed to make the contestants more likely to call on him. He might not have wanted to be called, but he wanted the attention and screen time he could get with his "dumb" act.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Dailey during the TV Land Ultimate Fan playoffs. He appeared releaved when I asked him questions about MAtch Game. he said he was sick of answering questions about "Bob Newhart " and "IDream of Jeannie". Even so, he was nice enough to sign the cover of a TV Guide I bought on eBay that featured a Jack Davis drawing of TBNS cast.
Patti Deutsch was the one I loathed most on the show because she always seemed oblivious to the fact that the object of the game was to MATCH the contestant. Hence, the reason why so many of her answers are beyond off-the-wall cases of self-indulgent humor (count up the number of times she'll give "clams marinara" as an answer) and she also had this hang-up with making cheap shots at the Nixon family in some of her answers (count the number of times David or Julie Eisenhower become an answer if the question calls for a name of someone dumb basically). Nixon was okay as a target but going after his family was way out of line.
