I have watched Last of the Summer Wine for many years now, but when I come onto this board, I simply can't believe my eyes. It has morphed from what it was intended to be (a board for discussing the show) into a fan-rant board (i.e. I LOVE this show, OMG this show is the best, how dare you say you don't like it....etc etc)

I read the topics and the moment anyone suggests anything but utmost allegiance to the show, that person is instantly silenced by long, emotional posts by someone who is obsessed with the show beyond reason.

So I make this post to urge you to remember that this board is for DISCUSSION and opposition to the show is just as welcome as allegiance.

As for my opinion, this show is a good one and I have watched it a long time. But in my opinion it is FAR past its prime and is due for retirement from making new episodes. Sure it's great, but I would be fine with watching reruns to reminisce rather than seeing this show come back every season into eternity, all with the same simpleton jokes and antics. Just my opinion, so don't go all fan crazy on me and attack it. Just post your thoughts.

And no, I'm not shallow or "trendy" as someone else posted in another thread similar to this. I simply realize that television shows have lifespans, and this one is at or has surpassed its own.

In order to keep with the spirit, there needs to be a straight man, a pratfall guy, and a third wheel to fill in when needed. Allow them to continue to relive their past as they remember it through the present: a young lad with an ipod reminds one of the early transistor radios, which of course will lead to the search for an old radio or an attempt to rebuild one with the thing electrocuting somebody (maybe Nora Batty starts jerking around, causing others to try to imitate her dance moves) or ending up melting during a transmission of some alternative goth music... Sadly, there seems to be no way to keep up the quality of the writing while recruiting elderly actors to fill the voids left by those who have gone before.
