Produced in the 70´s but aired in the 90´s ?

If you look at the imdb episode guide the whole series is produced between 1973 and 1978 but many episodes were released later in 1991 oder 1998. Is there any reason for it?

There were about six made for TV specials produced in 1990 and they are sometimes referred to as season six, the original series started and ended in the 70s.

The TV specials weren't very good. Telly was too old and it needed all of the old cast to return to have any hope of success. Sometimes you just need to know when to quit. ..
