Complete series on DVD

Hi guys,

I have been thinking to buy this series for quite a while now but I was annoyed by having to buy each season separately.
It seems a 30-disc box has finally been released in UK but I stumbled upon a 46-disc French box, claiming to contain Seasons 1 - 6 (Kojak's seasons being 5 as far as I know).
Does anybody know what's in the French box exactly?
It has additional 16 discs, do more audio-tracks (and probably less episodes per disc) explain this?
Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

reply

They may contain the tv movies made after the original series in the mid 80's til 1990 there were 7 made

The French box contains:

- "Kojak - Saison 1"
- "Kojak - Saison 2 - Volume 1"
- "Kojak - Saison 2 - Volume 2"
- "Kojak - Saison 3 - Volume 1"
- "Kojak - Saison 3 - Volume 2"
- "Kojak - Saison 4 - Volume 1"
- "Kojak - Saison 4 - Volume 2"
- "Kojak - Saison 5 - Volume 1"
- "Kojak - Saison 5 - Volume 2"
- "Kojak - Saison 6"

so apparently there is no tv movie.
It has 4 auiotracks while the English box seems to have 1.
The running time is different too, English runs 5651 min. while French runs 5340 min.

I have all five seasons individual there is a special on season 3 that the actors from the show are looking back in modern interviews but there is no 6th season the show ran from October of 1973 to March of 1978 I also have the 4disc set of Kojak:the complete movies that contains the pilot movie and the 80's and 90's movies

reply

I investigated.
Season 6 seems to be made of 5 tv-movies, namely:
- Arianna
- Fatal Flaw
- Flowers For Matty
- It's Always Something
- None So Blind

The following movies:
- The Marcus-Nelson Murders
- The Belarus File
- The Price Of Justice
don't seem to be there.

Getting the regular series and movies separately costs the same as getting that French box, but I will still missing the pilot and the two others.
I am a little stuck.
You probably have the R1 version (Shout Factory), how is the a/v quality?
I keep reading complains about that.

reply

I've had no problem with the video or sound quality I watched all of them and I am completely satisfied with the shout factory issues

reply

I read several complains about the a/v quality of R2 DVDs (I live in R2).
I don't know if it is worth to spend +$100 for low-quality DVDs.

reply

Yeah I might have a slight advantage in region 1 the first season is from Universal and everything else is from shout factory they are also digitally remastered good luck finding a good deal on a box set hope the quality is as good in region 2

Thanks Daniel.

I finished my run through the whole series the day before yesterday.
It took me 2 months to watch the five seasons.
I didn't remember that much of this series, just the wonderful opening theme/credits.
I'm glad I decided to buy it, it's a solid police drama with the plus of a cool lead character and his squad (great interaction between Telly Savalas and his brother George).
About the a/v quality, it wasn't that awful. Aside a strange "white fog effect" visible on several occasion during daylight sequences it was pretty good for material of this age.
Very good TV series to watch!

I already ordered the TV movies collection.

reply

I think the white fog effect was intentional. One, it gives the scenes an air of mystery & two, it obscures the backgrounds some. A lot of episodes used LA as a double for NY. Season 2 particularly.
