Proper explanation

I watched this today for the first time, I've been looking for obscure yet good post apocalyptic movies that I have never seen before and I've seen a lot.

Anyway, I was left confused on a few points.

1. Did they really live in a dome? When they left I never saw any kind of dome, maybe at the beginning we saw and I wasn't paying enough attention
2. If they where still living in a dome then why? I ask this as the world outside looked healthy and clean. The air around the city was so poisonous they had to wear masks. Wtf! That's why I thought the world was just like that now, no real fresh air. Yet they leave and can breathe free
3. Why are they all living there? I get that a nuclear war may have happened that left outside damned, but it looks good now. Why weren't people going into the fresh air so they didn't have to worry of population, oh look more space.
4. Why didn't they just take the baby on the boat the night before? Or hide him in the tunnel and say the blonde and her hubby were nuts coz they wanted a baby so bad? Why not just leave? They clearly didn't think anyone would follow
5. How did their neighbours actually expect them to just give them the baby? I'd have just killed them and got rid of their bodies, it's them or the kid.
6. How did the neighbour husband even decide to go in the tunnels? He didn't know they'd dug underneath, that they'd gotten out. It made absolutely no sense, oh look I've found you.

Any thoughts on really obscure yet good movies in the same vein always welcome........ None of the hugely successful ones everyone's heard of.

In the book there is no pollution. Regardless of that, you stay in the city for the food and because non-city areas are radioactive. Life expectancy is much longer in the city than on the island.

The punishment dome was the only option that gave them adequate time to flee. A night is only eight hours. Edna would have begun searching desperately for them the moment she found them gone.

Concerning number five, it is Solomon‘s dilemma. Edna is betting Russ and Carole would rather see their baby alive with someone else then dead. But the murder question is very interesting. How hard would it be to get away with? Could they keep their baby a secret throughout an investigation? Just how soon did they decide to flee?
