What a bizarre movie!
I received my DVD that I ordered of this film (only took two weeks - it had to come from Spain to Great Britain so not bad whatsoever). I thought it was a nice mixture of wacky comedy, delightful cartoon imagery and incredibly touching moments too. That's why it's so bizarre - it works like that. One minute I was laughing out loud, the next I was incredibly quiet because suddenly it turned into very touching moments. I could watch it again now, quite easily.
Loved Jack Lemmon's sly little looks and talks to the camera! I love it! It's as if he can see what the viewer looks like and is friendly with them, even though he is generally not very nice to the people around him.
Jack Lemmon could do anything and still be marvellous, we all know that. If he had done a film that was purely about...bins or something, I'd still watch it and enjoy it because it's Jack. And once again he did not fail to deliver here.
I thought Herb Edelman was pretty hilarious as well. I always liked him as the nervous policeman Murray in The Odd Couple (1968), which was also with Jack Lemmon and is also highly recommended.
Marilyn Monroe: I don't want to be rich. I just want to be wonderful.
